Theater critic Elysa Gardner is on the red carpet at the Tony Awards. Here's a few of the stars she's chatted up:
Of working on House of Blue Leaves, Edie Falco said, "Boy we got lucky. It's such a lovely bunch of people." She also "shared (director) David Cromer's sensibility, that he was able to go to that darker place" with the play.
Kathleen Marshall, up for director and choreographer of a musical (Anything Goes), was thrilled to get "critical recognition" in "a season as great as this." And she spoke highly of Anything Goes cast member Laura Osnes, whom she helped discover as a judge in the reality series You're The One That I Want (for Grease): "She's the real deal."
James Earl Jones, who despite great acclaim wasn't nominated for his performance in Driving Miss Daisy, acknowledged that it had been a great season for plays. "That's why I'm here. Vanessa (Redgrave, his costar and actress nominee) and I are going to speak about some of the events (on Broadway)."
Andrew Rannells, a nominee for best lead actor in musical for Book of Mormon, went for a "classic" look in an Armani tuxedo. He admitted to being nervous, "but in a good way - excited nervous."
