After everything Cheryl Cole's been through lately, we're not so sure if her top-secret love reunion with her cheating ex-husband is the best way to get over her US X Factor rejection.

Insiders say the pair are now closer than ever and are talking every day about patching up their broken marriage.

And what's more, last week Ashley made a very public signal that things were getting serious by wearing his �200,000, diamond-encrusted wedding ring, albeit on his right hand.

Despite doing their utmost to never be seen together, we can reveal that Cheryl and Ashley have been secretly meeting up for the past nine months!

?I was at Cheryl's last October when Ashley came downstairs with no top on,' says an insider.

?They both acted as though it was the most normal thing in the world.'

A second source informs us that the pair secretly met up in London early in May and again last Tuesday for a private dinner with friends including Sarah Harding and Kimberley Walsh.

?They were all over each other,' says our source. ?The chemistry was palpable on both occasions.

'Mark my words, they're definitely on.'
