Cheryl Cole's grown close to Derek Hough since her split from footballer Ashley Cole
Derek Hough turned 26 on 17 May and Cheryl Cole bought her close confidant an expensive snowboard as well as a carefully-selected collection of smaller birthday gifts.
The new US X Factor judge, who's promoting the show in America while Derek films new movie Cobu 3D in Canada, also found time to sing Happy Birthday to the dancer down the phone.
'Derek thought because of her schedule she wouldn't have time to send a card, let alone a basket of presents,' a source tells The Sun.
'All the stuff was really personal - he was so touched.'
Cheryl's clutch of goodies is said to have included CDs and DVDs, a framed picture of the couple in South Africa and a sushi cookbook.
And Cheryl, 27, wasn't the only one to give the Dancing With The Stars pro special treatment on his big day.
'Thank you for all the wonderful birthday wishes,' Derek Tweeted yesterday. 'My family left some hilarious messages on my answer phone .I'm blessed with a great family.'
