Authorities ID man killed in head-on collision in South LA

LOS ANGELES - A motorist killed in a head-on collision in South Los Angeles was identified today by the coroner's office.

Marasho Kri Mazique, 35, of Los Angeles, died in the crash, in which his passenger was seriously injured.

The collision at Manchester Avenue and Figueroa Street was reported at 2:09 a.m., Los Angeles police Sgt. Ronnie Cato of the Central Traffic Division said.

Drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash, and no one was cited or arrested, Los Angeles police Sgt. Cy Feliciano of the Central Traffic Division said.

Feliciano said a motorist going west on Manchester Avenue attempted to make a left turn to southbound Figueroa Street when he struck Mazique's vehicle, which was going east on Manchester Avenue.

The driver in the westbound vehicle complained of pain to his chest and neck. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital where he was expected to survive his injuries, he said.
