?As the American Idol (tonight, 8 ET/PT) judges still seem to be struggling to find their inner critic, here's a suggestion for a note they can deliver beyond the ever-popular "pitchy" and the ever-necessary reminder that lyrics consist of words, not just a random collection of syllables: You're not stars yet, and you're certainly not "artists" (the show's most regrettably abused word).
This instant group-ascension happens on every Idol, even though the contestants who have achieved career success without victory are the exception, not the rule.
But it has been exacerbated this season by the overpraise the non-judgmental panel heaps upon them. So repeat after me: Wait until after you've sold out a few stadiums before you start telling the audience what to do, and that includes demanding they clap along.
In the meantime, concentrate on at least feigning humility. And Jacob and James, that goes double for you.
?On the other hand, no one can question the star status of South Park(Comedy, 10 ET/PT) co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
